Safety

The colored bands on the wheel indicate the appropriate operating speed of the respective wheel.

If no colored band is provided 30 m/sec
Blue band 45 m/sec
Yellow band 60 m/sec
Red band 80 m/sec
Green band 100 m/sec

The following rules must be observed for successful operation of grinding wheels.
• The type of the grinding wheel must be suitable for the material to be grinded.
• It is risky to perform operations such as modifications or grooving on the grinding wheels.
•Care shall be exercised to ensure that the operating speed of the wheel is not excessive.
• The flanges that tighten the wheel must be of equal diameter and shall be tightened to prevent slackening.
• Do not press the wheel strongly on the work piece to increase the cutting effect.
• Handle the wheel manually and store carefully.
• Place the wheel in a casing and operate a newly installed wheel at idle test speed for a minimum period of one minute.
• You will be satisfied with our products as long as the above mentioned rules are observed.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

1- The speed of the shaft on which the grinding wheel is attached (RPM or revolutions/minute) shall not exceed the speed specified by the manufacturer on the grinding wheel.
2- Grinding wheels with bakelite bonding are affected from the liquid coolant. Please contact the manufacturer in cases where it is imperative to use liquid coolants.
3- In the benches that are operated with liquid coolants, the liquid coolant supply shall be shut off and the bench shall be allowed to run idle for a few minutes before it is turned off. This should be done to drain the coolant from the grinding wheel. Otherwise the coolant will accumulate in the lower section of the grinding wheel throwing it out of balance.
4- Unreinforced grinding wheel shall never be used on portable grinding tools.
5- No force shall be applied on the side surfaces or the periphery of grinding wheels to stop them quicker after the power switch is turned off.
6- Goggles and face masks shall be used to prevent injuries due to sparks and particles generated during grinding operations.
7- The harmful dusts in the working environment as specified by health and safety institutions shall not exceed 10 mg per 1mt³ of air as a maximum. Dusts generated during dry grinding operations shall be discharged from the environment through dust collection vacuum systems.
8- Overalls, protective aprons, protective gloves and safety shoes are equipments that are required for grinding operations.

9- The grinding wheel must always be subjected to resonance testing before being installed on the tool. Resonance testing is a highly reliable method for identifying cracks which provides accurate results on grinding wheels with ceramic bonding. Lightweight and small sized wheels must be tested by inserting your left forefinger through the hole to prevent the wheel from contacting the surface and large and heavy wheels must be tested by placing them on a wooden surface etc. The point to apply the stroke for the resonance test shall be selected between 25 to 50 mm inside the outer diameter at 45 degrees to the left and 45 degrees to the right of the vertical axis. The stroke shall be applied by tapping slightly with non-metal tools (screwdriver handle etc). It the wheel is fractured, the light stoke that is applied will be absorbed by the wheel producing a rotund sound. The wheel will produce a high pitched and long lasting sound like a cymbal. Wheels that produce dubious test results shall not be used.
10- Do not insert the wheel onto the motor’s shaft forcibly. Do not interfere with the wheel shaft.
11- Use suitable flanges and makes sure that the flange diameters are equal.
12- Do not keep any tools or workshop towels near the machine when it is running to prevent them from getting trapped and pulled by the wheel.
13- Gaskets (cardboard tags) shall be used to install the grinding wheel. The diameter of the gasket shall be slightly wider than the flange diameter.
14- Newly installed wheels shall be allowed run idle at full speed for 3-4 minutes before being used, making sure that no one is standing in the vicinity.
15- Grinding wheel trimming device with our without diamonds shall be used to sharpen or trim grinding wheels that are out of shape.
16- Never make notches on the grinding wheels.
17- Do not use motors that are not equipped with a protective shield or that are equipped with substandard protective shields.
18- Use cutting wheels only for cutting operations. Never attempt to perform grinding operations with cutting wheels.
19- Perform grinding operations by holding the flex wheels at a 30-45 degree angle with the horizontal axis for maximum efficiency. Adjust the position of the grinding operator accordingly.
20- Grinding wheels shall not be subjected to lateral loads during operation.
21- Grinding wheels shall not be exposed to the following adverse conditions during storage;

a-)  The storage environment shall be free of dampness and moisture and the wheels shall not contact water or other liquids.
b-) The wheels shall not be exposed to freezing cold.
c-) Temperature differences shall not be high.
d-) Storage life of wheels with resin bonding shall not exceed two years.
e-) The wheels shall be stored according to the first in first out method.
f- ) Care shall be exercised to make sure that the grinding wheels are not exposed to impacts during transportation.
